Unity forged versus Tuting
BY ROMY AMARADO

Two political leaders in Dumaguete City may unite against incumbent Mayor Agustin Perdices.

Provincial Board Member Arturo Umbac (2nd district, Oriental Negros), who already made public his intention to run for mayor, confirmed that he and former Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo are now talking of a possible alliance against Perdices. Umbac did not elaborate but stressed that whatever is the outcome of the talk, he will not change his decision.

"There is no turning back," Umbac told the DAILY STAR.

The two-termer board member said his bid will provide the people the opportunity to articulate their feelings.

He said the people want change, adding that issue in the city right now is leadership and peace and order.

Perdices, who will be seeking his last term, said he was surprised by Umbac's decision, considering they were friends and were together in the past two elections.

"It is the right of everybody to run," he said.

Perdices said anybody who has ideas for solving social problems such as peace and order need not wait for the election, because the matter is everybody's concern.

But Umbac said he did not think that Perdices would listen to his ideas, that is why he did not bother to make any suggestion to the mayor.*RA
