The 1st Negros Occidental Cooperative Congress will be held today
at the Balay Kalinungan, University of St. La Salle and the 28th
Provincial Cooperative Day Celebration, on October 20, also at the
same veneu.
About 5,000 participants from more than 300 cooperative groups
in Negros Occidental are expected to attend. Speakers include Mayor
Evelio Leonardia; Sugar Regulatory Administration chief Rafael Coscolluela;
and Antonio Meloto, executive director of Gawad Kalinga.
The gathering, themed "Building A Sustainable Negrense Society,
The Cooperative Way," features various cooperative issues like Cooperative
Taxation, Inter-cooperative Trade, Food Safety and Sovereignty,
Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Cooperatives in Rural Development
and Cooperative as a Civil Society Organization.
Activities include sports events, group clinics, jobs fair,
medical and dental operations and exhibit. These are spearheaded
by the La Salle Brothers Employees Community Cooperative whose aim
is to strengthen unity among cooperatives in the province to facilitate
cooperative education and formulate development and legislative
agenda for the local cooperative sector.*
