Bacoleņa Mia Piccio followed up her 72 with a 2-under 70 Sunday
to rule the World Woods Rolling Oaks Open at the World Woods Golf
Club in Florida.
It was an impressive win for the 15-year-old Piccio, who gunned
down seven birdies against five bogeys to top the 21-player girls'
13-18 event.
She beat Stanford University-bound scholar Sally Watson and
former World Juniors champion and compatriot Cyna Rodriguez, who
finished in a tie for third.
Trailing Scottish golfer Sally Watson by two strokes at the
end of the first round, Piccio roared back with birdies on holes
No. 1, 7, 10 and the par-3 14.
Watson finished with a 143 total and also tied Piccio and
Daniela Lendl for most birdies in the division. Japanese Elisa Aoki
equaled Rodriguez's 145 aggregate.
It was Piccio's first win in the United States this year, after
finishing second in the Malaysia Amateurs in August. Piccio, a member
of the national pool, topped the Madaline Hooper Memorial Tournament
at the California Golf and Country Club in June last year. She also
helped fuel the Philippines' title romp in the Thailand Ladies Open
at the President Gold and Conference Center in Bangkok last March.
