ILOILO CITY — After going on a controversial trip to Taiwan sponsored by proponents of a coal plant project in the city, Iloilo City officials have recommended that Ilonggos should be open to coal plants like other sources of energy.
In a nine-page report submitted to Interior Undersecretary Austere Panadero, Vice Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog and seven city councilors said any source of energy should be acceptable “as long as it is a private investment that adheres to and promotes strict environmental conformity.”
While the officials said their report should not be considered a technical opinion, it noted the cleanliness and safety of coal plants and “state of the art pollution abatement systems” of the three coal-plants they visited in Taiwan from Oct. 12 to 14.
