Marimar fever hits Bacolod

One of the lead stars of the local version of the television series “Marimar” said the sexy nature of the program is not solely intended to jack up ratings for the GMA network.

“It's the script. It's the intensity and the passion between the characters of Sergio and Marimar,” Dingdong Dantes, who plays Sergio in the night-time soap opera, said yesterday.

“We have standards. And we know the limitations (when it comes to the sexy scenes),” the actor said.

GMA network officials said that “Marimar” posted an audience share of 44.6 percent in Manila last week in the 8:30-9 p.m. weeknight time slot.

The show, a spin off of the popular Mexican telenovela of the same title that starred Thalia, is scheduled to run until early 2008, Dantes said.

Dantes and Marian Rivera, who plays “Marimar”, attracted a huge crowd when they appeared in a show at the SM Event Center in Bacolod City yesterday.

Fans came earlier than the 4 p.m. scheduled appearance of the two celebrities, who belted song and dance numbers to the delight of the audience.

The event is part of a whirlwind three-day swing by the Kapuso Network in Bacolod . On Saturday, the stars of Zaido, led by Dennis Trillo and Pauleen Luna, also appeared at SM City.

The Kapuso Night last Friday at the SM Grounds featured alternative band “Parokya ni Edgar.”*CPT
