Responsible parenthood hi-jacked

Rolly Espina

If there is anything that the public should heed, it is the hi-jacking of the Church’s Responsible Parenthood stand. Although the RH Bill is billed as such, it is a deception and is primarily intended to mask the truth.

Of course, I am just one of the voices in the wilderness. But I do hope that people should listen to the warning of Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas that the passage of the RH bill could lead to our destruction as a Godly nation.

I don’t want to go into the details of the controversy over the measure, except to point out a cardinal truth – that allowing the killing of babies in the womb is tantamount to murder of the innocents.

Making available to them contraceptive and abortifacient drugs is actually the same as providing our women folk the chance to kill their unborn babies.

Of course, the counter-argument is that it leaves them the discretion to exercise their right to decide if they wish to have more babies or not.

But that leaves to the woman and her husband the decision to terminate life and not to allow God’s gift of creation to live. All for the sake of reducing our population to the level where the government resources can serve them.

Let’s all thank God for the gift of children.

South African double amputee runner Oscar Pistorius qualified for the semi-final of the 400-meter run in the London Olympics. He came second despite his obvious difficulties running on prosthetic limbs.

We can only salute the courage of Pistorius for daring to run the race. Even if he does not win in the finals, and he may never win it, still we can only doff our hats off to the grit of the runner.

Our heart goes out to Mark Anthony Barriga of the Philippines who lost by a thin margin of 17-16 in his match with Kazakhstan Briazal Shakypov in their boxing bout last night at the London Olympics.

The Davao lad gamely tried his best to down his opponent but the longer reach of the Kazak fighter simply could not be overcome.

I was listening to the bout over Bombo Radyo but noticed immediately that Barriga did manage to hold his own in the first round which he lost by one point.

But in the second round, he managed to lead his Kazak rival by two points.

After that, however, the longer reach of the Kazak fighter fold Barriga who tried to score points.

We can only laud Barriga’s determined effort to win. He deserves kudos from the nation for his courage.

Rolando Espina (Junior) arrived yesterday in Cebu to participate in the Cobra Ironman contest which started off at Mactan Airport yesterday.

Jun-Jun, as we call him, informed me last night that he had arrived in Cebu with his wife, from Kabankalan.

How will he fare in the group of 1,700 participants is anybody’s guess. But I’d judge like to point out that his latest romp in England showed that Jun Jun notched record run of 11.5 in the 100 kilometer marathon.

He reportedly landed third in the swimming. I did not get his time in the Bikathon.

Still, I hope that he notches a credible performance in the Cobra Ironman Contest.

Jun-Jun, incidentally, has participated in several marathon events in Ireland, Budapest, Germany and Italy.

He is not after the winning. Just to prove that he can reach his goal of running the marathon according to his best time and join the bikathon as well as the swimming legs.

Hope to hear from him soon the result of his Cebu sortie.*
