NGOs, POs elect officers
BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

The Negros Oriental Network of NGOs and POs, the umbrella federation of peoples and nongovernment organizations and cooperatives in the province, recently elected its officers for 2012-2013.

Msgr. Merlin Logronio of the Diocese of Dumaguete and head of the St. Maria Goretti Foundation was re-elected as president; Arturo Umbac of YMCA, vice president; Nancy Estolloso of Tuburan Foundation, secretary; Michael Yuhan Ojas of PHCCI, treasurer; and Hipolito Quillan of KKCC, auditor.

The NEGORNET started nine years ago in partnership with the provincial government of Negros Oriental that funded last week’s series of activities to highlight the anniversary celebration of the federation.

Logronio said there is need for civil society to partner with local governments to promote development programs in the province, so sectoral groups will also have the chance to avail of livelihood assistance.

The federation has about 24 member-organizations like the Tuburan Foundation for Women Empowerment, Goretti Foundation for Women and Children Development, and credit cooperatives and farmers’ groups.

Logronio said the federation is also involved in disaster preparedness and response.*JFP
