I’m pregnant
and he’s married!

Dear Tita,

I am 23 years old, single and working as a call center agent. I was very lucky to land this job so I could help my parents, who are both old and in poor health. During one of our nights-out with my friends, I met Gil. We hit it off right away as he was very nice to me. He began courting me and it wasn’t long before I fell head over heels in love with him.

It was only after I had given myself to him that he told me he was married and had three kids. I was shocked. He never said he was involved with anyone, let alone married, and he wasn’t wearing a wedding ring. I was so angry with him that afterward, I refused to answer his text messages and his calls. However, when I missed my period, I became worried and a pregnancy test confirmed my worst fears – I was pregnant!

I called Gil to let him know my situation. He could hardly believe what happened and asked if I was sure. I said yes and that I needed his help. Gil doesn’t want me to break up his marriage and I don’t want to be a ‘home wrecker’. At first, I hesitated about letting him know, but reality has set in and I will need his financial help. I’m worried about my job as I don’t know if the company will still let me continue working with them in my present situation. Also, my parents don’t know about this, but it’s hard to hide. I’m not even sure if Gil will support his child if I don’t go to court to file for child support.

What should I do? Please help me as I’m so desperate.

PREGNANT GIRLFRIEND

Dear Pregnant Girlfriend,

You can’t hide your situation as soon, your pregnancy will ‘show’. You have to tell your family about it because you are going to need their emotional support in the months to come. Obviously, you won’t get one from Gil because he will have his hands full explaining this child to his wife.

You better make it clear to him that he will have to give you child support or you will be forced to go to court, in which case he will be spending more in lawyer’s fees, DNA test, etc. You also have to talk to your boss and tell him of your situation. Appeal to him that you need your job very much. Hopefully, he will be compassionate and understand.

TITA
