ICT drive intensified in Neg.Or
BY RENE GENOVE

The Information and Communications Technology Association of Dumaguete and Negros Oriental agreed recently to collaborate and participate in the national and local development to generate more jobs, revenues, investments and opportunities drive by the ICT and ICT-enabled sector.

The agreement was made during the 1st Visayas Information and Communications Technology Organization meeting, when the ICTA was organized to ensure that programs and projects are effectively implemented, and to develop a unified stand on issues affecting the ICT industry in the Visayas.

Lead convenor Jocelle Batapa-Sigue, chair of the National ICT Confederation of the Philippines, said the unanimous sentiment was to submit the manifesto to their regional development councils in regions 6, 7 and 8, and urged them to support it.

As part of the manifesto, the stakeholders committed to explore solutions that will reduce electricity rates and ensure efficient infrastructure to enhance and sustain the positive business ecosystem for all regions in the Visayas.

The group also agreed to request the Department of Energy to investigate the increasing electricity rates in the Visayas and explore solutions to reduce the rates to sustain and support the competitiveness of Visayas in ICT or ICT-enabled industries.*RG
