declared ‘danger zones’

BY MARICAR ARANAS

The areas are in Sitio Bloke 2, Brgy. Solonggon in La Libertad, and Sitio Ilaya Brgy. Tinayunan Beach, Sitio Pitogo of Barangay Zamora in Guihulngan City , which are strictly identified as danger zones.

NDRRMC: Toll rises to
113 dead, missing

MANILA - The toll of dead and missing from a powerful earthquake that struck Negros Oriental has risen to 113 as the civil defense chief said yesterday he had given up all hope of finding any more survivors.

Benito Ramos, National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council chief, told AFP the latest toll from the 6.7 magnitude quake which struck the central island of Negros on February 6 was 52 dead and 61 missing.

He added that army engineers were continuing to dig on the heavily-populated island because of the clamor of people insisting that the bodies of their relatives be found.

Relief operations for victims of the 6.9 magnitude earthquake in Negros Oriental were conducted recently by Merci Bakeshop and Negros Grace Pharmacy.

It was led by Jonathan Lo for Merci and by Bea Lo Yao for Negros Grace Pharmacy. They gave canned goods, rice, noodles, breads, gallons of purified drinking water, and vitamins for residents of Brgy. Manghulyawon and Brgy. Talayong in La Libertad, a press release from the group said.

Roadside signs that read “We need food and water” or “SOS” with tents set up on vacant lots were seen in the towns where the impact of the quake was greatly felt.
