2 motorcycle drivers
in crash, 1 killed, 1 hurt

A driver was killed  and  another was injured  in a collision of motorcycles at around 4:45 p.m., Tuesday, at Sitio Cansayaw, Barangay Linantayan in Basay,  Negros Oriental.

Police identified the fatality as Rommel Johnson, 39, married, of Linantayan, and the injured as Joseph Longkog, 25, married, of Barangay Nagbualao,  also in Basay.

Police investigation showed that the motorcycles of Johnson and Longkog collided at Cansayaw.

The two were brought to the Basay Rural Health Unit where Johnson was declared dead on arrival, while Longkog was transferred to the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital in Dumaguete.

It was not known whether the drivers were wearing the required helmets at the time.

The road accident comes at the height of public debate in Negros Oriental and Dumaguete City, over the impending implementation of the Mandatory Helmet Law, or Republic Act 10054.*JFP
