BSP run, fun
dance set July 7

Running and dancing enthusiasts in Negros Oriental are invited to join the “Barya para sa Kalikasan” fun run and dance of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Dumaguete branch at 5 a.m. on July 7, a government press release said.

The fund-raising project aims to promote BSP’s local environmental programs and its National Coin Recirculation and Clean Note Policy program.

Registration is ongoing until today at the BSP-Dumaguete at North Road, Daro. Participants may either pay P50 worth of low denomination coins, from P1 down to one-centavo, or onsite registration of P100 in banknotes or coins, the press release said.

Divina Salve of the BSP said the first 350 registrants will receive gift items from the Central Bank.

The fun run and dance will kick-off with a public viewing of BSP’s audio-visual presentations and infomercials, and a briefing on the “Barya para sa Kalikasan” activity.

This will be followed by a 1.5-km run, starting from the Freedom Park in front of Capitol building, and will end at the Perdices Coliseum oval grounds where the fun dance will be held.

Partner organizations shall have a group of dancers to lead participants to some dance moves, the BSP said.

Salve added the event intends to generate awareness on the importance of coins and the need to use and re-circulate them.

Funds raised during the event will be used to support BSP’s tree planting activities in riverbank areas in Negros Oriental and the recycling initiatives and conduct of public information campaigns on proper waste segregation and disposal.

It will also be used to augment the production of reef domes and mangrove propagules that will be placed at the Silliman beach in Dumaguete City and some areas in the province.

The activity will be held in coordination with the 350.org, Bankers Club of Negros Oriental, and Metro Dumaguete Road Runners Club, and in partnership with the Federation of Rural Bankers of Negros Oriental and Siquijor, Dumaguete Amateur Runners and Striders, St. Paul University Dumaguete, Silliman University, Negros Oriental State University, provincial government of Negros Oriental, Dumaguete City government, Philippine Information Agency, GATXS, and Cinematography and YGC Powerprints, the press release added.*
