Joshbianc Motors and Atlantic Auto Parts drew first blood as they posted double-digit victories in the opening games of the Fil-Sino All Asian Countertrade Inc. 2nd Conference Inter-Color Basketball Tournament at the Tay Tung High School Po Hang Gym.
With Arnol Laureño hitting seven straight points in the final minutes of the game, Joshbianc effectively quashed the Johann Kendrick rally to register an 88-73 win.
Atlantic , on the other hand, drubbed an undermanned Guanzon Dental Clinic, 116-97.
Joshbianc's victory spoiled the 42-point of Kirell Brahndon Montalbo, who led Johann Kendrick in several comebacks, twice cutting the lead in the payoff quarter to 12 points from a 70-50 third quarter deficit.
The rally was halted when Laureño started hitting his mark to bring back the lead to 62-81with three minutes left in the game.
Earlier, Richard Co scored 12 points in the opening quarter while Ralph Ong and Jeremy Coo added six points each for a 28-15 first quarter Joshbianc lead.
Montalbo kept the game close in the second quarter as he blitzed Joshbianc with 22 points to cut the lead at 46-41 at halftme.
JK's offense, however, sputtered in the third quarter as the squad can only manage nine points, while a balanced offensive by Joshbianc netted them 24 points for a 20-point lead going into the fourth quarter.
Richard Co topscored for Joshbiance with 17 points, while Laureño finished with 13, Joshua Co shot also shot 13 points, Ralph Ong dropped 12, Arvin Chua and Toffel Tan with 8 points each.
In the second game, Guanzon Dental played with only six players but managed to remain within striking distance up to the third quarter at 86-77.
Jan Jan Young delivered 10 points with Marc Lo and John Montemayor combining for 11 points as the trio delivered the killer blows in the fourth quarter with their effective outside shooting.
Clarence Quingco topscored with 23 points, all coming in the second and third quarter, Young deliverd 18, John Montemayor and Mark Lo shot 14 points each, Joel Masadia and Andre Tan had 10 points apiece, and Michael Ang contributed 9 points.
Jose Miguel Montinola paced GDC with 22 points backstopped by Mark Velez with 15, Christopher Mahinay and Bong Palo added 14 points apiece, Atty. Jubert Katalbas chipped in 12 points, Matthew Yap shot 11, and Dr. Emil Guanzon with 8 points.*NAB
