Watchmen keeps hope alive
in Probac/LNA7 basketball

Watchmen Daily Journal outplayed Fortuna, 102-84, to keep its quarterfinal hopes alive in the 1 st PROBAC/LNA7 Basketball Invitational Tournament played Thursday night at the West Negros University gym.

Determined to register another victory in the tournament after a series of setbacks, Watchmen started strong in the first quarter with a 26-14 lead as Pril Gacho scored 13 points, including three successful attempts from the three-point area.

Henry Bagay and Marion Opuan combined for 11 points to back up Gacho, while JR Gaposan and Omit Badrina perked things up for Fortuna with six points each.

Bouncing back in the second quarter, Fortuna got 11 points from Ryan Gamboa and eight points from Newyn Oñas to cut the lead at two points, 41-39 at halftime.

In the second half, a 28-15 rally from Watchmen led by Elmer Antonio with 12 points took Fortuna by surprise as they failed to launch their own counter-attack.

Known for their endgame lapses, WDJ were more careful in the payoff quarter as they kept the points coming and remained ahead until the final buzzer.

Alisbo led Watchmen with 21, while Corriente finished with 15, Gacho added 13, Antonio scored 12, and Mananquiel with 9 points.

Gamboa topscored for Fortuna with 20 points, Oñas delivered 17, Badrian contributed 10 points, and Gaposan and Joery Dilag with 9 points.*NAB
