DepEd Negros reviews program
on school-based management

The Department of Education Schools Division of Negros Occidental, headed by Supt. Rizalino Tortosa, yesterday completed the four-day extensive review of the school-based management program plans of about 590 elementary and 120 high schools in the province, a press release said.

The activity aims to fast-track the attainment of the Education for All and the Millennium Development Goal of the government.

DepEd 6 regional director Mildred Garay instructed schools division superintendents in Western Visayas to ensure that the particular needs of each city and provincial schools division are immediately and directly addressed, using the SBM program funds and agency savings.

Assistant Schools Division Superintendent and SBM Negros coordinator, Jose Freddie Mocon, said school-based management is the way to go to properly program the learning curve of the school, since school heads are in the best position to know the particular needs of their students.

A reading center has been established to improve literacy and in line with reading recovery program of DepEd, the press release said.

Principals and school heads also revised their SBM plan to include the acquisition of learning activity packages, like English reading kits, to booster the students’ literacy, the press release added.*
