Robbery suspect surrenders;
2 ‘pickpockets’ apprehended

A robbery suspect surrendered in Brgy. Pahanocoy, Bacolod City, yesterday, while two suspected pickpockets were arrested by Station 4 policemen at Burgos-Hilado streets in the city Tuesday night.

Station 8 chief, Senior Insp. Jerick Filosofo, said Christopher Banay, 31, of SP Village, Brgy. Pahanocoy, surrendered to Brgy. Captain Elmo Olivar after he learned that policemen were looking for him, allegedly for robbing a lending collector in the barangay at about 4:20 p.m. Tuesday.

Dennis Badiale, a collector of the Capitol Leverage Lending firm, told the police he was walking at SP Village when Banay blocked his way, threatened him with what looked like an ice pick, took his cellular phone and P5,000 cash, and fled.

Badiale’s cellular phone and a ballpen wrapped in packing tape, allegedly used by Banay to threaten the victim, were recovered from his possession during his arrest, Filosofo said.

Investigation showed that Banay had been convicted before for homicide charges and has a pending case for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, he said.

Meanwhile, two pickpockets were arrested by Station 4 policemen after they were mauled by bystanders at about 8:40 p.m. at Burgos-Hilado streets.

Station 4 chief, Senior Insp. Dianne Grace Aquitania, identified the suspects as Reynaldo Espillo, 31, of Bangga Totong, Brgy. Handumanan, and Romel Demi, 32, of Purok Cagaycay, in the barangay, in Bacolod.

Merry Joy Tornea, 20, of Purok Mars in Brgy. Singcang, Airport, Bacolod, told the police that one of the suspects took her wallet, that contained P2,300 in cash and identification cards, while they were on board a passenger jeepney.

Espillo and Demi are now detained at Police Station 4 lockup cell and theft charges will be filed against them.*APN
