Sipalay cattle center set
to open – Decena

A deed of usufruct will be signed today between the province of Negros Occidental and a private land owner to use the latter’s 15 hectare-lands in Sipalay City as a Provincial Satellite Sheep Breeding Center.

Dr. Renante Decena said yesterday that Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. Vice Gov. Genaro Alvarez, and land owner Merceditas Montilla will sign the agreement today on the use of the land in Brgy. Canturay, Sipalay City, for five years.

He said Montilla has agreed to lend the land to the province because she believes in the passion of the governor in making Negros sustainable in livestock production and food security and that she is willing to assist the province in the land pasture and development of the area.

About 100 sheep from the Negros First Ranch in Brgy. Sta. Rosa, Murcia will be transferred to the new breeding center so beneficiaries can learn and do hands-on training on sheep management, he said.

The center will serve beneficiaries of the Negros First Dispersal project particularly those in the southern part of Negros, like Hinobaan, Cauayan, Ilog, and Sipalay City, he added.

Meanwhile, 30 pregnant Holstein Freisan cattle from the National Dairy Authority arrived at the BREDCO port at 2 p.m. yesterday as part of the dairy development program of the province.

The animals were brought to Sagay Dairy Farm, the dairy multiplier farm of NDA in Negros Occidental, where they will stay until they give birth and their offspring dispersed to their accredited and qualified raisers for breeding, he said.

The dairy multiplier farm will also produce fresh milk that will be given as food supplement to malnourished school children in the province, he added. *LTG
