SBP referees
gab set at WNU

The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas will hold a three-day referees clinic on June 29, 30 and July 1, at the West Negros University Gym, a press release from organizers said.

SBP provincial director Tony Agustin said the seminar is in line with the SBP’s thrust of development a standard program to improve the level of competitiveness in officiating.

The seminar also aims to improve the competence  of those who are already in the trade and for SBP to discover fresh talents who will officiate in the most popular sport in the country, the press release said.

SBP provincial referees coordinator for Negros Occidental, Felipe Bat-og, said the seminar will start at 8 a.m. on June 29 with the registration of the participants, followed by a series of lectures and capped by a demonstration on practical methods of officiating on June 30,  it also  said.

The clinic is  in line with the plan of SBP regional director Robert Uy to produce local referees for international competition, who will follow in the footsteps of Tronjay Aldaba of University of Negros Occ.-Recoletos, Patrick Canizares of La Consolacion College, and Wilbert Culanag of WNU, who were able to officiate in the Philippine Basketball Association.

Registration fee for the seminar is pegged at P850. Interested parties may inquire from WNU Sports Office at telephone numbers 434-4561 local 148 or 7077077, the press release added.*
