The Social Security System plans to shift towards the electronic disbursement of salary loans and short-term benefits from its current system of releasing them through checks, an SSS press release said.

The move aims to provide more convenience and ensure the timely delivery of funds to members and employers.

SSS president and chief executive officer Emilio de Quiros, Jr. said the agency has started this year its mandatory reimbursement of employees’ sickness and maternity claims thru bank accounts of employers all over the country as initial step, the press release said.

LPG rates cut by P1 per kilo

MANILA – Independent retailers of liquefied petroleum gas slashed product prices by P1 per kilo, at 12:01 a.m. yesterday.

LPG Marketers Association party-list Rep. Arnel Ty said the P1 rollback would translate into a P11-markdown per 11-kilo cylinder.

“This is an advance rollback, this is supposed to be for next month,” said Ty,

Ty attributed the continued price cuts to the downtrend in world contract prices of LPG.

DOH vows to block
foreign tainted milk

MANILA – The Department of Health has assured the public that infant milk in the country is safe.

Dr. Eric Tayag, DOH assistant secretary and spokesperson, said there was nothing to worry about in the milk formula in the country, noting that the Food and Drug Administration had tasked milk inspectors to inspect possible entry of tainted milk.

He said this after fears were aired that milk from China, reportedly tainted with unusual levels of mercury, could reach the local markets, especially distributed and repacked.
