Sta. Fe Resort is one win away from sweeping the elimination round when it defeated second placer Buddy Johann Kendrick Tan, 76-65, in Class B of the 12th Tan Kek Pin Memorial Basketball Cup at TTHS Po Hang Gym, in Bacolod City. Meanwhile 888 Chinatown Square improved their chances for one of the top two spots by rallying past RU Shredder, 93-90 Sta. Fe engaged Buddy in several lead changes in the first quarter with Sta. Fe holding a slim 18-17 lead and, Sta. Fe did not yield the lead after as Buddy played catchup for the rest of the game. In the payoff quarter, JKT launch a last ditched effort to cut the double digit lead to 68-63 on a Mark Coo lay-up. But the uprising was extinguished as Clarence Quingco sunk a trey and Ren Ren Lacson layup brought the lead back to double digit to notch its seventh straight victory. Lacson topscored with 18 points., Oliver Manaloto added 16 points. with 10 pts. delivered in the 4th quarter, Quingco shot 10 pts. and Daniel Chiu made 8 pts. Mark Binguan finished with 15 pts., Franklyn Madrid scored 13 pts., Badong Eufre contributed 9 pts., Vincent Javelosa and Coo with 8 pts. each. In the 1st game Rey Pandoro scored 13 pts. and Marc Lo added 9 pts. to lead 888 to a 26-21 opening quarter lead with Biboy Yap making 8 pts. for RU. Chinatown Square was outscored by RU in the next 2 quarters to grab the lead 76-67 going to the last 12 minutes of the game as Brgy. Capt. Biboy Yap delivered 14 pts. and Roger Montalbo 13 pts for RU while Richard Co 18 pts. and Lo added 7 pts. for Chinatown Square. 888 relied on their fastbreak attacks to rally past RU in the payoff quarter 26-14 as Lo scored 11 pts. and Pandoro hit 7 pts. Lo chipped in 27 pts., Richard Co shot 24 pts., Pandoro had 20 pts. and Arian Chua shot 8 pts. Yap picked up 26 pts. and Montalbo scored 22 pts., Andrei Tan shot 11 pts., Chris Javelosa and Toffel Tan with 10 pts. each.* | |
