Neg. Occ. to showcase
coffee products

Negros Occidental will showcase coffee origins and local coffee products in the Coffee Week celebration on March 26 to 30 through the Organik na Negros! Organic Producers and Retailers Association and FreshStart Organics, Ramon Uy Jr., ONOPRA president said.

The event will be held  at the Agribusiness Development Center, Department of Agriculture, Quezon City, featuring the varieties of coffee from different regions in the Philippines, Uy said.

They will bring coffee brand names like Kanlaon, Negrense, and Hacienda that are produced by local entrepreneurs and organic farmers in the province, he said.

There will be a series of trainings on coffee production and marketing that aims to share technical assistance to different stakeholders to help develop and promote the Philippine Coffee Industry, he also said.

“We are establishing partnerships with the local government units, non-government organizations, farmers’ groups and coffee associations in positioning local organic coffee origins with their own unique branding,” Uy said.

Negros Occidental coffee products have different origins like Buenos Aires, Mt. Mandalagan, Patag, Canlusong, Cauyan, Sagay, San Carlos, and Don Salvador and had their  own unique tastes, he added

The fact  that organic farmers are now enjoying high prices for organic coffee, adding that promoting the coffee industry will encourage more farmers to invest in coffee farming, Uy also said.

“Negros organic coffee is gaining a lot of support and recognition both from national and international consumers, and we hope that farmers will find their own niche in the coffee industry,” he added.

The Coffee Week celebration is in cooperation with the Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Service and the National Agribusiness Corporation. *LTG
