Fire and earthquake drills, ground rescue, high-building evacuation and first aid applications, were conducted yesterday in the downtown area of Dumaguete City as part of the observance of March as Fire Prevention Month.
Firemen and rescuers helped employees of business establishments, put out flames in a simulated scenario, while the “injured” were evacuated on stretchers, assisted by rescue volunteers, and transferred to safe places for first aid treatment.
The disaster drills were held by the Bureau of Fire Protection-City Fire Department and the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, and participated in by volunteer rescue teams.
On Thursday, fire and earthquake drills were also held at City Hall, and was participated in by employees and citizens transacting business with the city government.
The activities were intended to teach Negrenses what to do during disasters, especially in fire incidents, the BFP said.*JFP
