Capitol giving out
P2.8M in projects

The province of Negros Occidental is giving out P2,800,000 worth of projects and P390,000 in cash for the winners of the Pasidungog sa Panguma, Pangisda, kag Pagsagod Kasapatan 2012 at the Panaad Festival on April 9-15, Dina Genzola, senior agriculturist of the Office of the Provincial Agriculture said yesterday.

Genzola said winners of Outstanding Local Government Unit Performers on Staple Food Sufficiency Program will receive projects worth P1,000,000 for first prize, P700,000 for second, P500,000 for third and two consolation winners will get P300,000 each.

Winners of Outstanding Farmers category and Outstanding Small Scale Fish Farmers category will each receive P20,000 cash, and the province will also five Outstanding Agricultural Extension Workers who will each get P10,000 cash, she said.

LGUs, individual farmers, AEWs, and farming associations will vie for the 14 awards, Genzola also said.

The province is giving its support to food sufficiency and encouraging LGUs to create programs on agriculture that will help the province achieve its goals.

An OPA booth and mini restaurant will display the agriculture and fishery products of their assisted farmers, fisherfolk, barangay nutrition scholars, and 4-H club of the youth, she also said.

A food security corner will also be provided for LGUs to display their Negros First priority programs while the best booth will receive P10,000 for city and municipal categories, she added.

Gov. Alfredo Marañon, Jr. will also award parents of Pagkaon Scholar Awardees called “Ginikanan” as tribute to them. There will ten to 15 parents who will receive the award.

The awards are to recognize the efforts in meeting the needs of all Negrenses, particularly in food security, livestock and poultry development, and in maintaining good production for the province.*LTG
