One nabbed in drug bust
BY ADRIAN NEMES III

An alleged drug peddler was arrested in an illegal drug raid conducted by the National Bureau of Investigation and the Bacolod City Police Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group yesterday in Brgy. Granada.

NBI-Bacolod agent-in-charge, Ferdinand Lavin, identified the arrested suspect as King “Ike” Bautista, in his 50’s, of Abada-Escay, Vista Alegre in Brgy. Granada.

Armed with a search warrant issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 42 Judge Fernando Elumba, the NBI and CAIDSTOG raided the house of Bautista at about 6 a.m. yesterday, Lavin said.

The raid on Bautista’s house was conducted based on information from a concerned citizen that the suspect is into illegal drug sale. The NBI conducted a test-buy operation to ascertain the information they received and they confirmed that Bautista is indeed into the illegal drug trade, Lavin said.

Bautista, who was sleeping in a couch, was surprised to see the law enforcers inside his house prompting him to draw his. 45 caliber pistol, Lavin added. However, Bautista forgot to attach the magazine of the gun and failed to fight back, he said.

Aside from the gun, the NBI law enforcers seized two small sachets of suspected shabu and several bank deposit slips from Bautista, NBI records showed.

Levin said the bank deposit slips, showed that Bautista has been depositing P100,000 to P200,000 a week and they suspect that these are proceeds from his illegal drug trade.

Three hours after the raid at his residence in Abada-Escay, the NBI and CAIDSTOG also raided Bautista’s house in Purok Punta Kapre in Brgy. 8, Bacolod.

Investigation showed that Bautista was just released from jail for highway robbery, and had also been jailed for other cases, which include attempted homicide and violation of the Republic Act 6425 (Dangerous Drugs Act).

Charges for illegal possession of firearms and illegal drugs are now readied against Bautista, who is now in the custody of the NBI.*APN
