Farm workers belonging to the Negros-based National Federation of Sugar Workers or yesterday challenged the Department of Agrarian Reform to dismiss the Negros Occidental government’s appeal to exempt the 160 hectares agricultural land in Brgy. Sta. Rosa, Murcia, from land distribution, an NFSW press release said.
DAR must stand on its decision covering the area for land distribution. It should expedite all effort to protect the interest of the land reform beneficiaries against Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon’s anti-farmer and farm worker food security program that protects vast land holdings from land reform coverage, NFSW secretary general John Milton Lozande said.
2,814 jobseekers employed
The Bacolod City Public Employment Service Office has placed 2,814 workers in March, 2,730 of when were deployed locally and 84 overseas, Moises de la Cruz, PESO manager said yesterday.
De la Cruz said local employment was more in demand in the previous month and this has provided work opportunities for fresh graduates and skilled workers.
He said the low overseas deployment does not mean there are less jobs abroad, adding that recruitment companies are strict and are looking for job applicants who have skills and the right qualifications.
‘Diskwento Caravan’
held at NGC
The Department of Trade and Industry, and the City of Bacolod held a Diskwento Caravan for the Negrense consumers yesterday at Masskara Hall-III of the New Government center, a press release from the city said.
Participating firms showcased their products and brands at the dealers’ discount price to consumers.
Diskwento Caravan mechanics and related matters such as the Consumer Welfare Month on October were also discussed.
