The Department of Agrarian Reform will have to work 20 times its current pace if it wants to distribute 32,000 hectares of land in Negros Occidental this year, a press release from Task Force Mapalad said yesterday.

TFM’s assessment was in reaction to the promise of DAR Region VI Director Elmo Banares that the target is attainable.

Banares claimed that since the 32,000-hectare target was far lower than the original 58,000-hectare goal this year, then it becomes “realistic,” the press release said.

A resident of Brgy. Talacagay, Hinobaan town, Negros Occidental, who has occupied for 15 years land owned by Blanca Bilbao-Beltran placed under the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program, is asking the agency to include her in the coverage and make her a beneficiary.

At a press conference at the Negros Press Club building in Bacolod City, yesterday Hermenia Colasisang, 64, said she is cultivating and occupying the 1.0148 hectares with lot numbers 15 and 16.

She said she and her son Bernie, plant fruit-bearing trees like jackfruit, coconut, lanzones, pineapples, and bananas for their livelihood.

No building permit issued
for glass company: OBO

The Office of the Building Official has not issued a building permit for the construction of COMGLASCO at Lacson Street, Bacolod City, acting Building Official Ephraem Hechanova said.

In his letter dated May 22, Hechanova said they have not been remiss in their duties and responsibilities and have always followed due process in addressing all cases. This was in reaction to the letter of Stella Cadagat who pointed out their alleged failure to enforce a City Ordinance and the National Building Code.

Cadagat also claimed that the OBO did not enforce the three- meter setback required of all buildings from the nearest national road.
