Arguelles-Flores tandem
capture crown in Palawan

Fast rising junior tennis player Fernando Jose “JR” Arguelles of Bacolod City added another championship to his name when he captured the title in 14-and-Under boys' doubles category, in partnership with Luke Alquin Flores of Iloilo, in the Philta-sanctioned Junior National Tennis Championships held October 26-31 in Puerto Princesa, Palawan.

Arguelles, a sophomore in University of St. La Salle-Integrated School, also finished first runner-up in 14-and-under boys' singles and reached the quarterfinals of the 16-and-under boys' singles at the tournament sponsored by the Palawan Pawnshop and Babolat.

In capturing the doubles' title, Arguelles and Flores beat top-seed Cenon Gonzales Jr. of NCR and Vincent Alanis of Bicol, 5-3, 5-4 (7-4).

Arguelles yielded to John Godfrey Seno of Cebu , 0-6, 3-6 in the 14-and-under singles and lost his quarterfinals match against Jerome Romualdez of NCRm 3-5, 4-5 (4-7) in the 16-and-under boys.

Arguelles is currently ranked No. 8 in the 14-and-under boys and No. 19 in the 16-and-under boys of the Philippine Lawn Tennis Association ranking system.*NAB
