The Southeast Asia Renewable Energy People’s Assembly is calling on newly-appointed Energy Secretary Jericho Petilla to prioritize renewable energy projects over coal-fired power plants as the country continues to look for more power sources.
“Applying Renewable Energy Projects will adhere to being in harmony with nature, communities and people,” the statement signed by SEAREPA coordinator Gabriel Sundoro Wynn, said.
Wynn signed in behalf of the assembly of more than 130 participants representing 80 organizations in 13 countries, held at the Rainforest Development Centre in Sandakan City in Sabah, Malaysia, recently.
PNoy certifies bill
on sin tax as urgent
MANILA – President Benigno Aquino III has certified the sin tax reform bill as urgent, Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte, said, adding that this will hasten the deliberation on it at the Senate.
Valte said that under the Constitution, the President may certify bills as urgent in the case of a public necessity; and, in the time of a public calamity.
She said the government needs P77 billion to implement the universal health care and what the government proposed in the 2013 national budget was only P54 billion.
