Miss Earth bets model
locally-designed gowns

BY MARICAR ARANAS

Twelve Miss Earth 2012 candidates modeled the glamorous gowns designed by three local designers in a fashion show Sunday at the Lamberto Macias Cultural and Sports Complex in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.

The candidates representing Canada, Zimbabwe, Korea and Scotland wore the designs made by Dean David Ang; bets from Kosovo, Belize, Belgium and Spain were attired in dresses designed by Larry Ybasate, with the reigning Miss Earth, Olga Vargas, stunning in a pink evening gown; while bets from China, USA and Lebanon wore the creations of Jerry Fernandez.

The fashion show was part of the countryside visit of the contestants to Dumaguete City and Negros Oriental over the weekend.

Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo said he was happy that the candidates had the opportunity to see and experience the beauty of the province and the warmth of the Negrenses.

He said he hopes that the province could be a venue for future Miss Earth pageants, as Negros Oriental already hosted several international events. This year’s coronation night will be held Nov. 24 in Pangasinan.

Dumaguete City Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria, Sangguniang Panlalawigan Board members, businessmen led by Negros Oriental Chamber of Commerce and Industry president, Edward Du, and representatives from government offices and the academe also attended the fashion show.

The candidates also held a tree planting activity at the Energy Development Corporation Southern Negros Geothermal Production in Valencia town, and joined the Sandurot Festival street-dancing parade in Dumaguete City Saturday.*MA
