P1M allotted for
Palaro preparations

The Local School Board has allotted P1 million from the Special Education Fund for the improvement of sports facilities in Negros Oriental’s campaign to host the Palarong Pambansa April next year, a press release of the province said.

The funds will be to finance the pre-Palaro preparations, Salustiano Jimenez, provincial schools division superintendent, said.

The amount will be used to refurbish buildings and improve field events that will be used, only if the Palaro is conducted in Oriental Negros, the press release also said.

Another P2.5 million will be earmarked by the LSB if Negros Oriental is chosen as the venue. The provincial government launched its bid to host the annual national sports event yesterday.

At the launching, Provincial Board Member Rodrigo Alanano said the Sanggunian recently passed a resolution supporting the campaign to bring the Palarong Pambansa to Negros Oriental.

Jimenez said private universities and colleges, and local government units, not only in Negros Oriental but in the nearby provinces of Siquijor, Bohol and Cebu, are also supporting the bid, the press release also said.

Palarong Pambansa is an annual multi-level national scholastic competition conducted by the Department of Education for elementary and secondary pupils from public and private schools.

Its hosting is determined by bidding and on a rotation basis, following the Visayas-Luzon-Mindanao-Luzon cycle.

Negros Oriental has yet to host the sports event, while the other contender for next year’s hosting duties, Negros Occidental, has done so several times, the press release added.*
