The Land Transportation Office-Bais and the Tanjay City Police Office have intensified the campaign against motorcycles with improvised mufflers.
LTO Bais chief Alberta Janine Lawas said they have confiscated several motorcycles using them from Tanjay and Bais cities.
The use of an improvised muffler is in violation of the LTO law. Lawas said majority of the owners of motorcycles with such mufflers are into drag racing, and most of those apprehended were minors.
Former Bais City Mayor Hector Villanueva had earlier complained that drag racing, usually done at night, disturbs residents living near the highway.
Lawas said the campaign has caused a reduction in the number of motorcycles with improvised mufflers.
The seized motorcycles are impounded at the LTO Bais compound, and at the Tanjay police headquarters, and will be released only after the owners return the original vehicle accessories and pay the fines.
Lawas also urged parents to check on their children, and never to allow them to drive without a license.*MA
