No cover-up assured in
slay case vs. cop
BY ADRIAN NEMES III

“There will be no cover up.”

That was the assurance of Police Regional Office-6 Director Chief Supt. Agrimero Cruz yesterday to the family of a man who was shot dead by a policeman from Iloilo Province in Brgy. Tangub, Bacolod City, on August 12.

Cruz said that he will not allow anyone to intervene in the case of Police Officer 3 Kenneth Cerbo, who allegedly shot and killed Greggy Alfonso, 23, of Purok San Roque and injured his cousin, Rodolfo Alfonso, 25

Greggy succumbed to a gunshot wound in his chest at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, while Rodolfo was confined in the same hospital for a wound in his abdomen.

Cerbo is now under restrictive custody at the Iloilo Police Provincial Office, and undergoing summary dismissal proceedings.

“Let those at fault receive appropriate penalties to give justice to the victims”, Cruz said.

Investigation showed that Cerbo of Calinog town, Iloilo, who is assigned at the Bingawan town police station in the same province, shot Alfonso for unknown reason while they were buying ice from his store in Purok Seaside, in Brgy. Tangub, Bacolod City.

Cerbo evaded arrest but surrendered a week later claiming self- defense and saying that one of the victims had an improvised shotgun or sulpak and wanted to shot at him.

Murder and frustrated charges have already been filed against Cerbo before the Bacolod City Prosecutor's Office.*APN
