About 65 percent of the residents of Purok Sigay in Brgy. 2, Bacolod City, are into the illegal drug trade.
This was confirmed by Kagawad Noe Romero after another drug peddler was arrested in the area yesterday.
Romero said arresting peddlers in Purok Sigay will not solve the illegal drug trade in the area, and alternative livelihoods should instead be offered to residents.
Their officials led by Brgy. Captain Imelda Banguanga are mapping out plans to curb the illegal drug trade in their area but if the people do not have other sources of income, they will continue to sell illegal drugs, he added.
The Bacolod City Police Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group arrested Jocelyn Sevillano, 29, of Purok Sigay at about noon yesterday after she allegedly handed a small sachet of suspected shabu in exchange for P300 to a police poseur-buyer.
Supt. Santiago Rapiz, head of the CAIDSTOG, said Sevillano has been on their drugs watch-list for some time and she had even been warned to to stop her illegal drug activities.
Policemen seized 12 elongated sachets of suspected shabu valued at P24,000, P1,200 in cash believed to be proceeds from illegal drugs and other illegal drug paraphernalia from Sevillano during her arrest.
Sevillano is now detained at the lock-up cell of the Bacolod City Police and charges for illegal drug sale and possession will be filed against her.*APN back
