Samie Lim, president of the Philippine
Chamber of Commerce and Industry, is encouraging the business sector in Bacolod
City and Negros Occidental to take advantage of the investments opportunities
that will come with its hosting of the 16th Visayas Area Business Conference in
September.
"We hope the (conference) will bring in investments,
we hope Bacolod will take advantage of (it)," Lim, who met with Metro Bacolod
Chamber of Commerce and Industry officials, led by their president Roberto Montelibano,
Saturday to discuss preparations for the upcoming conference.
Lim told the DAILY STAR the hosting of this year's Visayas business conference
is "a turning point for Bacolod," wherein PCCI is offering it a chance to show
what it has to the rest of the world in the two-day gathering.

The Federation of Cooperatives of Negros
Occidental awarded on Saturday its top ten cooperatives both in share capital
and in CETF remittance.
The awards were given by FOCONO during
its 35th General Membership Assembly held at the Sugarland Hotel in Bacolod City,
with the theme "FOCONO at 35: A Symbol of Commitment and Service to Cooperatives
in Negros Occidental." The ten with the highest share capital contribution are
the San Carlos City Government Employees Multi-Purpose Cooperative, P200,000;
Capitol Government Employees MP Cooperative, P95,000; 4B's MP Cooperative, P40,000;
Sagay City Government Employees MP Cooperative, P33,000;

rolling stores selling
NFA rice, other basic goods
The National Food Authority is now operating
196 rolling stores nationwide as part of its intensified rice distribution during
the lean months from July to September, Administrator Jessup Navarro said.
Aside from selling NFA rice at P18 per kilogram, the rolling stores also offer
sugar, cooking oil, coffee, noodles and sardines at lower prices. Navarro said
in a press release the NFA continues to deploy monitoring teams to check the supply
and prices of rice, adding that grains businessmen found violating the rules and
regulations in rice trading will be meted appropriate sanctions.
Also, the NFA is operating 6,466 Tindahan Natin outlets are being operated nationwide
to serve low-income family-beneficiaries in identified depressed areas. From this
number, there are 649 Tindahan Natin outlets in the National Capital Region.*
