IN TALISAY Mother, son nabbed in illegal drugs
raid A mother and her son were arrested by the
police Saturday for violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous
Drugs Act of 2002, at Purok Bay-ad in Brgy. Zone 3, Talisay City.
Apprehended were Rommel Fernandez, 30, and his mother, Virginia Fernandez, 50.
The two suspects were arrested after a team of Talisay policemen
led by Chief Inspector Joseph Thomas Martir raided the house of the Fernandez
family, with a search warrant issued by Judge Antonio Guinanao.
Martir said the raid yielded 110 marijuana cigarets and P450 cash, and was witnessed
by Kagawad Efepanio Ayagan. Police investigations show the
10 marijuana cigarets and P150, which were placed in a plastic container, were
surrendered by Virginia to the police raiding team. Martir
said Rommel was included in the list of drug personalities operating in Talisay
City, Negros Occidental. He said the marijuana cigarets may
have been intended for sale to users in the barangay, that was celebrating its
fiesta yesterday. The raid was witnessed by Kagawad Efepanio
Ayagan. Martir said Rommel was immediately subjected to drug
testing at the police Crime Laboratory in Bacolod City, as well as the confiscated
marijuana cigarets. The two are now detained at the Talisay
Police Station lock-up cell, for filing of charges against them today.*GPB back

De
la Paz gets regional PNP post Senior
Supt. Ricardo de la Paz is now assigned at the Police Regional Office 6 to occupy
a higher position, after his relief as police chief of San Carlos City, Negros
Occidental, last week. Western Visayas police director Wilfredo
Dulay has designated de la Paz as the new chief of the PRO 6 Regional Investigation
and Detective Management unit, effective today. De la Paz
will replace Senior Supt. Coo Yee Co who is now assigned at Camp Crame in Metro
Manila. Senior Inspector Victorino Romanillos took over the San Carlos City Police
Station, where de la Paz had been assigned for more than six years as police chief,
since June 2000. The reshuffling of police officers occupying
sensitive positions in Negros Occidental started on June 18 with the designation
of Senior Inspector Rone Grajo as police chief of Pulupandan.
Grajo took over the Pulupandan Police Station command from Inspector Ariel Pico
who is slated to the incoming police chief of Salvador Benedicto town.
Fifteen other police officers in Negros Occidental are also up for new assignments

3 arrested for thefts
at department store Three persons, one of them
a minor, were arrested by store employees in alleged theft incidents in Bacolod
City during the weekend, the police said. Richard Ledesma,
24, of Bangga Pepsi, Brgy. Bata in Bacolod, was arrested by Domingo Calasicas,
head security of Gaisano Mall after he allegedly left the department store without
paying for the two MP4 players he had taken at about 11 a.m. yesterday, police
records showed. Calasicas told the police that they recovered
the items worth P3,599 each from Ledesma's backpack. Meanwhile, a 17-year-old
girl was apprehended by Salmo's Boutique employees for allegedly leaving the shop
without passing through the cashier at about 4:10 p.m. yesterday.
The minor, whose name is being withheld by the DAILY STAR, stole a green blouse
worth P348, Jena Ann Salvacion, the boutique's salesperson, said.
Salvacion said that they suspected that the teenager had taken the shirt when
they saw that one of the items on their rack was missing. The girl, who is from
Talisay City, Negros Occidental, said that she took the blouse to sell it because

Handumanan in Bacolod, was arrested by Police Station 1 officers led by PO3 Edgar
Allan de Guzman for allegedly stealing the P400 in cash of Antonia Cabansag, 62,
at Araneta-Ballesteros Streets, Bacolod City at about 3:10 p.m. Saturday, police
