IN TALISAY
Mother, son nabbed
in illegal drugs raid

A mother and her son were arrested by the police Saturday for violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, at Purok Bay-ad in Brgy. Zone 3, Talisay City.

Apprehended were Rommel Fernandez, 30, and his mother, Virginia Fernandez, 50.

The two suspects were arrested after a team of Talisay policemen led by Chief Inspector Joseph Thomas Martir raided the house of the Fernandez family, with a search warrant issued by Judge Antonio Guinanao.

Martir said the raid yielded 110 marijuana cigarets and P450 cash, and was witnessed by Kagawad Efepanio Ayagan.

Police investigations show the 10 marijuana cigarets and P150, which were placed in a plastic container, were surrendered by Virginia to the police raiding team.

Martir said Rommel was included in the list of drug personalities operating in Talisay City, Negros Occidental.

He said the marijuana cigarets may have been intended for sale to users in the barangay, that was celebrating its fiesta yesterday.

The raid was witnessed by Kagawad Efepanio Ayagan.

Martir said Rommel was immediately subjected to drug testing at the police Crime Laboratory in Bacolod City, as well as the confiscated marijuana cigarets.

The two are now detained at the Talisay Police Station lock-up cell, for filing of charges against them today.*GPB
