Acting supervisor Eddie Aba of the Oriental Negros Commission on Elections said all pre-proclamation protests should be converted into regular election protests starting next month.

The candidates in the cities of Bais and Tanjay now have pending pre-proclamation protests which have been forwarded to the COMELEC Division in Manila, for decision.

In the case of Dauin, only Mayor Rodrigo Alanano has a pending pre-proclamation protest filed by his opponent, and the newly-elected councilors can take their oath of office anytime, he added.

MOA on jathropa
plantation inked

Secretary Angelo Reyes of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources signed recently a Memorandum of Agreement with Rep. Herminio Teves (Oriental Negros, 3rd district) and an official of the Philippine Forest Foundation, at the Bayawan City conference hall.

The MOA is for the planting of jathropa in the 24-hectare land in Tamlang Valley, Bayawan City, Oriental Negros.

The event was witnessed by officials of the DENR and the Bayawan government. It was agreed that the PFF will shell out P500,000 per hectare of the jathropa plantation in 25 years. Teves said he is optimistic that the jathropa plantation will be successful in Tamlang Valley, considering that it is a drought-resistant plant.

NFA 'Tindahan Natin'
outlets now operational

The National Food Authority said it has fully accomplished the establishment of the "Tindahan Natin" stalls all over Oriental Negros.

NFA provincial manager Gil Ibarra said that, from January to May this year, the agency has distributed a total of 42,218 bags of NFA rice to these stalls strategically situated in the barangays all over the province.

In the first district, a total of 17,284 bags, second district with 17,712 bags and third district - 10,222 bags of NFA rice.
