Concelebrated Mass set
for Escriva's feast day

A Concelebrated Solemn Mass for the feast day of Saint Josemaria Escriva, founder of the Opus Dei, will be held at the Queen of Peace Parish Church, in Bacolod City, at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, a press release from the Buklod Cultural Center said.

Bacolod Bishop Vicente Navarra will be the main celebrant. Priests will be available to hear confessions one hour before the Mass. Opus Dei is a Personal Prelature of the Catholic Church. Its mission is to spread the Christian message that every single person is called to holiness. It also offers support and guidance to help those who want such holiness in their ordinary lives, especially through their everyday work, the press release added.*

Historian gives talk

Historian Modesto Sa-onoy discussed the Role of Negros in the Philippine War for Independence recently, a press release from the Buklod Cultural Center said.

Present were students and teachers from the Bacolod Tay Tung High School, Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod, Negros Occidental High School, St. John's Institute, University of St. La Salle-Integrated School, University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos and USLS. The gathering was organized by Buklod Cultural Center, a place for men that offer academic, cultural, professional, social and spiritual training.

Drawing tilt winners named

Various schools in Bacolod City participated in a drawing/painting contest, "Care for the Earth, Let Love Fly!" organized by the Bacolod Fo Guang Cup-Bacolod Chapter, a press release from the group said.

Winners are, in Group A - Carl Locson of La Consolacion College, Marje Beatrice Padilla (LCC), Danielle Denisse Duro (Jack n' Jill School, Jack n' Jill/Castleson High), Kim Chan Hee (St. Scholastica's Academy), Iasaiahnna Paula Genzola (SSA), and June Naries Abellar (SSA).

Group B winners are Lyka Huilar (Bacolod Tay Tung High School), Angeline Diaz (LCC), Kathleen Ababao (University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos), Anya Marie Louise Benedicto (SSA), Mary Natalie Ampil (SsA), and Alyssa Marie Lobaton (University of St. La Salle Integrated School), the press release said.

Those who won in Group C are Mel Rose Aguilar (LCC), Margheri Baylin (SSA), Hannah Therese Sayson (SSA), Paolo Emmanuel Betita (St. Joseph High School), Abigail Kristy Javellana (TTHS), and Ellani Huilar (TTHS). Other participating schools were Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod, Negros Mission Academy, St. John's Institute, West Negros College-Integrated School.

Winners will be awarded by the board of judges composed of Charlie Co, Robert de Arco and Eduardo Vasquez, from 9 a.m., July 1, at the Yuan Thong Temple, in Bacolod, the press release added.*
