2 ex-seafarers stabbed

Two former seafarers were stabbed by men allegedly over an old grudge in Brgy. Singcang-Airport, Bacolod City at about 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

Case investigator Police Officer 1 Roberto Gaurana identified the victims yesterday as Joffery Galvan, 36 and his brother Jeffrey, 35, of Purok Cadena de Amor in Brgy. Singcang-Airport.

The two were rushed with stab wounds on their backs to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital but were released later since their wounds were not serious, Gaurana told the DAILY STAR.

Investigation showed that the two were sitting on a bench at the basketball court of Purok Cadena de Amor, when the suspects identified as “alias Meljo”, “alias Reyborn” and a minor, whose name was not disclosed came.

The suspects allegedly greeted the Galvans and when they did not reply they were mauled and stabbed by the three who eventually left, Gaurana said.

He also said the Galvans and the suspects had a verbal tussle several months ago when after the suspects were scolded by the victims for creating alarm and scandal in the basketball court.

Gaurana added that they are preparing frustrated homicide charges against the three suspects, who were still at large as of press time last night.*APN

6 apprehended
for ‘jai-alai’

Six men were arrested by the police in barangays 30, Taculing, and Felisa in Bacolod City Saturday, for alleged jai alai operations.

Station 6 policemen and Police Regional Office-6 Special Operations Group arrested Willy Gringon, 44, of Purok BM in Brgy. Taculing at about 8:10 p.m., while allegedly in the act of collecting bets for jai-alai in the purok.

Betting stubs, ballpen and P118 were recovered from Gringon during his arrest, the police said.

Ronnie Barena, 22, of Purok 5 in Brgy. Taculing was also arrested by Station 6 policemen at about 8:50 p.m. also for alleged jai-alai operations and confiscated from him tipsters with the codename “Target”, betting stubs, ballpen and P155 in bet money.

Station 10 policemen, meanwhile, arrested Leondro Colado, 35, of Brgy. Felisa at about 9:15 p.m. at the Bangga Totong Mini-market.

Several tipsters with the codename “Target” and P993 in bet money were recovered from Colado when he was arrested, Station 10 chief, Senior Insp. Robert Dejucos, said.

Station 6 commander also reported the arrest of Ricky Berbor, 33, and Ulymar Conag, 37, of Purok Mainuswagon in Brgy. 30 and Rey Reyes, 28, of Fortune Towne Subdivision in Brgy. Estefania in Purok Mainuswagon at about 10 p.m.

The policemen seized several tipsters with the codenames “Target”, tally sheets, calculators, two cellular phones, ballpen and P680 from them during their arrest.*APN

Rob victim
identifies suspect

Bacolod City Police Intelligence Branch head, Supt. Leonardo Borromeo, yesterday said the taxi driver who was held up has identified the suspect who took from him at least P2,420 in cash ,at 10th Street last week.

Borromo, however, refused to name the suspect while the investigation is still ongoing.

He said they presented at least four pictures of suspected robbers to the victim, Celso Bernadas, 53, of Purok Cereza North in Brgy. 3, Bacolod and employed by Faith Taxi who positively identified one of them as the person who held him up at about 3:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Contrary to what has been reported earlier, thesuspect who robbed Bernadas and Eduardo Zamora, 46, and driver of JU Taxi, earlier this month is not the same person, Borromeo said.

Borromeo had earlier told the DAILY STAR they are eyeing a group of youngsters, who belong to a fraternity as the suspects in robbing Zamora.

Intelligence operatives of the Bacolod police are now tracking down the suspects in the two robbery incidents.*APN
