Junior Mustangs dethrone SJI
in high school basketball final

An explosive third quarter rally led by Josue Segumpan and Renz Solomon erased a 15-point deficit and carried the West Negros University junior Mustangs to a 91-82 victory to wrestle the crown from defending champion St. John Institute in the final game of the 2011 NOPSSCEA high school boys’ basketball at the WNU Gym yesterday.

Not even the 45-point outburst from SJI’s Kib Montalbo, who played his first year for the Falcons this season, can stop the young Mustangs from completing a second half salvo that saw Segumpan delivering 17 points in the third quarter to almost single-handedly outscore the whole SJI Falcons, who finished the quarter with 18 points.

Team Murcia captures
6 titles in Area III Meet

Winning the championship match against the host team Silay in secondary boys’ volleyball, Team Murcia captured six championship titles in the Area III sports meet that ended in Silay, Saturday.

The Murciahanon athletes dominated the boxing event as its elementary boxers were uncontested, while the high school side prevailed over Talisay to win the gold.

Murcia also emerged winner in elementary softball, secondary girls’ arnis, secondary boys’ tennis and finished with the silver medal in elementary and secondary baseball, elementary boys’ tennis, secondary boys’ arnis, secondary girls’ softball, and secondary girls’ tennis.

Bago, Dolar book
1-2 seat in bowlfest

Bago City Bowlers and Dolar Surveying Office took the 1-2 position in the curtain raiser in the Five-Man Team Bowling Tournament at the Super Lanes of the Goldenfield Commercial Complex in Bacolod City of the Negros Professional Bowlers Club/LJP Trading.

The Bago team of Mayor Ramon Torres had 1,639 pinfalls to lead the 7 teams while Jun Dolar’s squad had 1,630, with only nine pins separate them.

Bago had 537 balls in the first game, 538 in the second and 564 in the third.
