11-year-old runner
wins gold in 5K race

When she went up the stage to claim her prize, those who were watching the awarding ceremonies were surprised to see an 11-year-old girl receiving the gold medal in the 5K women’s event of the Run United Bacolod leg that started and ended at the Bacolod Government Center, Saturday.

Lyan Delima finished the race with a time of 22 minutes and .01 second while Raye Deanne Ferrer came 18 seconds later to claim the silver medal. Rey Ann Mae Mercado settled for third place with her time of 24 minutes and 19 seconds.

In men’s 5K, Joefel Basa topped the event with his time of 17 minute and 29 seconds, Joan Ibanez at second spot with 18:36 and Jan Alman Baruc, with his 18:41 time.

The centerpiece 21K men’s race was dominated by Romulo Balinas Jr., who reported to the finish line after 1 hour, 16 minutes and 51 seconds, or five minutes ahead of Altair Rodriguez, who registred a time of 1 hour and 21 minutes and 35 seconds. Third place went to Lamberto Catalogo Jr. with a time of 1 hour and 36 minutes and 35 seconds.

The top three winners in the women’s 21K were Stephanie Cadosale (1:41.21), Phoebee Anne Lava (1:42:52), and Joyce Serquillos (1:54.45).

In 10K event, the top three finishers in men’s division were Joel Alcorin (35:39), Joseph Heyres (41:36), and Francis Villanueva (44:50). Women’s 10K top three finishers were Alyn Grace Salas (48:20), Katherine Choi (58:25), and Beatrice Angela Erbite (1:04:24).

The 3K top three finishers in men were: Jun Montalbo, Efraim Afajora, and Marvin Santillan, while the winners in women’s side were Louily Pamati-an, May Therese Gula, and Jelce Villarte.

After the Bacolod leg, the Run United’s next stops will be in Cagayan de Oro on November 27, Baguio on December 4 and in Cebu on December 18.*NAB
