Cops find body of
rob suspect
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

An armed suspect allegedly behind the hold-up of a delivery van in Bago City, was found dead yesterday at a riverbank in Sitio Calayugan, in Brgy. Culo, Pulupandan.

Inspector Joshua Villasis, Pulupandan police chief, yesterday said the hold-up suspect identified as Leonardo Obando robbed a delivery van of Peter Lopingco at gunpoint in Sitio Calamansi, Brgy. Poblacion Bago City, and divested its salesman of about P100,000 on Oct. 13.

Obando, 32, who dived into the Bago river to avoid the pursuing policemen, was nowhere to be found for almost two days, until his body was discovered 10 a.m. yesterday in Pulupandan, which was positively identified by his brother-in-law, Elberto Cervantes, police investigations showed. Villasis said Obando who had injuries under his left lower eye, may have died of drowning. He, however, said this will be validated by an autopsy.

Recovered from Obando were a Seiko wristwatch, a wallet containing documents and identification cards, as well as belt bag containing P63,318.25, which the Pulupandan police suspect form part of the money stolen from the salesman of Lopingco. Villasis said the traveling bag containing important documents, which was also taken from the delivery van by Obando, remains missing as of this time. He said Lopingco is offering a reward to anybody who will return the traveling bag.*GPB
