1,100 students to get jobs

The Bacolod City government and its Public Employment Service Office will orient 1,100 students participating in its summer program at 8 a.m. today at Bays Center, Bacolod City, Moises de la Cruz, PESO manager said yesterday.

De la Cruz said they will deploy the students to the 61 barangays of the city where they will conduct surveys on job vacancies, skilled workers, and on the payment and registration of mayor’s permits for business establishments.

He said the students will work for 15 days starting April 10. They will also conduct tree-planting activities, coastal cleanup drives, and seedling propagation with the City Environment and Natural Resources Office.

The students are expected to receive about P3,000 as compensation, De la Cruz said.

De la Cruz said the summer job is a Special Program for the Employment of Students of the Department of Labor and Employment. He also said that the city government will pay for their wages.

Among the guests at the orientation are Mayor Evelio Leonardia, Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson, and PESO officers, he added.*LTG
