The Commission on Elections has announced that the filing of the certificate of candidacy for any position in the May 2013 polls will be from October 1 to 5, while the last day of the voters’ registration is on Oct. 31.
Eddie Aba, Negros Oriental provincial Comelec supervisor, said the calendar of activities was approved in an en banc meeting of the Commission in Manila recently. The early filing was to give time for the printing of the ballots, including the administrative, operational and technical preparations for the automated elections next year, he added.
This will also give time for the customization of a more advanced and updated counting machine, which will take at least five months, or from June 25 to November 26, 2012. Aba said the bidding for the acquisition of another counting machine is ongoing until June 4.*JG
