Inter-brgy. basketball,
volleyball tourneys start

BY RENE GENOVE

The Gary Teves Summer Sports inter-barangay basketball and volleyball tournaments, featuring teams from the 30 barangays of the city, reeled off at the City Quadrangle in Dumaguete City, recently.

With the theme “Unity in Sports,” the summer event that aims to give the youths and the young-at-hearts an avenue for sportsmanship, camaraderie, and character formation, will be conducted annually in all cities and towns of Negros Oriental, starting this year.

Gary Teves led the ceremonial tossing of the ball, with Dumaguete Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria, Vice Mayor Alan Gel Cordova, Councilor and Association of Barangay Captains chairman Albert Aquino, Councilor Dan Teves Leon, and SK Federation chairman Cyril Mapili.

In his speech, Teves compared life to the hoops game, and encouraged the participating teams to be fair, honest, and to give importance to building a strong, positive character.*RG
