BY GILBERT BAYORAN

Rep. Alejandro Mirasol pledged P250,000 worth of communication equipment and P100,000 worth of projects, for the implementation of the Internal Peace and Security Plan Bayanihan of the 11th Infantry Battalion in the 5th district of Negros Occidental.

Capt. Ariel Quirog, 11IB Civil Military Operations officer, said yesterday that the pledges was made to 1Lt. Jimrhic Obias,11IB Charlie Company commander, during the 5th district Joint Peace and Security Coordinating Center meeting, held recently in Brgy. Carabalan, Himamaylan City.

Quirog said the P250,000 will be used for the procurement of 25 units of portable radio communications and two mobile radio bases, to boost the operational capability of Army soldiers and CAFGU Active Auxilliaries, who are performing peace, security and development works in the 5th district.

Obias said the additional communications equipment will enhance the inter- operability among Army and police units in the area.

He also said Mirasol also promised P100,000 as assistance to various IPSP Bayanihan projects of the 11IB Charlie Company in the 5th district.

The 11IB Charlie Company has been leading the Bayanihan campaign in the 5th district with community- based programs such as livelihood projects and trainings, leadership trainings for the youth and peace advocacy, military records show.

Its flagship program, the “Bayanihan para sa Kinabukasan ng mga Kabataan,” which includes ‘tsinelas-for-a cause’, and educational tours for schoolchildren, has earned accolades and support from various sectors.* GPB
