The Department of Labor and Employment in Negros Occidental has released P2,457,890 in grants to eight beneficiary groups this year to help them put up businesses, Ma. Victoria Mondragon, DOLE provincial director, said yesterday.
Mondragon said funds were released under the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program that aims to assist small organizations at the barangay level to have their own business to sustain their families.
The recipients are the Multi-sectoral Alliance for Development – Negros, Brgy. Cabacungan, La Castellana; Brgy. Tabao-Rizal, San Enrique; Brgy. Suay, Himamaylan City; Brgy. Tuburan, EB Magalona; Brgy. VI-A, Victorias City; Brgy. Singcang Airport, Bacolod; and the local government unit of San Enrique.
The project and amounts they received were for cattle fatteing -P412,500 (MUAD-Negros); Convergence of Various Livelihood Projects Towards Community Enterprise - P324,970 (Brgy. Cabacungan); Clearing of Canals and Waterways - P178,800 (Brgy. Tabao-Rizal).
Other groups are Enhancement of Productivity for Small Fishermen -P70,100 (Brgy. Suay); Collective Green Mussels Culture - P248,200 (Brgy. Tuburan); Integrated Livelihood Project - P421,032; Enhancement of Fishing Gears and Equipment for Marginal Fishermen (Brgy. Singcang -Airport); Convergence of Various Livelihood Projects Towards Community Enterprise - P324,970 (San Enrique government).
She said the projects are all grants and do not require repayments. Other LGUs and barangay associations can also apply for a grant at their office but they must provide a project proposal.
