The Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod approved Wednesday a resolution to request the Department of Social Welfare and Development through Bacolod City’s Department of Social Services and Development to prioritize the poor families with autistic or special children in choosing beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4PS).
The resolution, authored by Councilor Sonya Verdeflor, said that since January 2009, 379,345 poor families have enrolled with the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program and more families will be chosen as beneficiaries to receive the assistance for five years.
The resolution said poor parents with autistic or special children of school age suffer more hardships and financial burdens in coping with their children’s special education and early interventions.
The SP also approved a resolution requesting the City Mayor’s Office to increase its budget, financial assistance and support to the DSSD and provide it with its own vehicle to be used in dealing with street children, rugby boys and girls, Badjaos and mentally-deranged roaming around the city and disturbing peace and order.
The resolution was also authored by Verdeflor as chairman of the SP Committee on Family and Child Care and Development.*CGS
