‘Good things to happen
in SC with Sereno'
BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia yesterday said he believes that good things will happen in the Supreme Court with the appointment of the first female chief justice.

President Aquino named Supreme Court Associate Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno Friday to take the place of ousted chief justice Renato Corona.

Leonardia said Sereno is young, is a new face, and, on the basis of her record, there is reason to expect good things to happen in the Supreme Court.

He believes there is now an opportunity to really implement whatever should be done so that the judiciary will continue to have the sense of respect of the public, he said.

Leonardia also said, “From her record, I think we can conclude that good things will happen in the Supreme Court.”

He recalled that Sereno was one of those who gave Bacolod City an award when she was still with the Asian Institute of Management.

“When we were recognized by AIM, the USAID and German Technical Cooperation as a local government for being the best in compliance with government mandated programs, Sereno was the one who gave us the trophy,” Leonardia said.*CGS
