Call for Robredo's wife
for senator snowballs
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. yesterday joined the call to convince Leni Robredo, wife of the late Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo, to join the senatorial race in the 2013 elections.

Marañon, in his speech after the DILG-sponsored mass for Robredo at the San Sebastian Cathedral in Bacolod City, yesterday said that he called for Mrs. Robredo to run for senator “so that she can continue the work that her husband had started”.

A campaign is now ongoing at a social networking, Facebook, to encourage the wife of Robredo to continue the vision and dreams of her husband for a better Philippines, by running for senator.

Hopefully, this move will snowball with the help of the media, Marañon said.

He also rallied Negrenses to join him in his call for Mrs. Robredo to run for senator.

The mass for the late DILG Secretary Robredo was attended by Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia and his wife, Elsa, Vice-Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson, Sagay City Mayor Rafael Leo Cueva, San Enrique Mayor Mario Magno, DILG provincial officer Maredith Madayag, Senior Supts. Milko Lirazan and Ricardo de la Paz, representing the Philippine National Police, BFP Supt. Fred Trajeras and BJPM Supt. Amelito Fuentes, among others.

Leonardia said Robredo will serve as a guiding star for the Filipino people. He was accorded a state funeral.

Robredo was buried yesterday in his hometown in Naga City.
