Help build classrooms,
Lacson asks city

Former San Carlos City mayor, Eugenio Lacson issued a press release yesterday urging the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod to pass a resolution requesting Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia to help build the six-classroom buildings for the Negros Occidental High School.

Lacson, the NPC candidate for vice governor in the 2013 elections, said this after Bacolod Councilor Sonya Verdeflor passed a resolution appealing to philanthropists and concerned citizens from Bacolod and the province to support the building of the six classrooms, the press release said.

He said that it would be good if Bacolod City could help in the building of the classrooms, since most of the students enrolled at NOHS are its residents. Reports said more than 5,700 students of NOHS, almost ninety percent, are from Bacolod, Lacson’s press release said.

“The province has enough resources to answer the P10M requirement for the building of classroom without resorting to a loan”, he said in the press release.

It also said that in case the governor will not release the last quarter Special Projects Allocation of the ten Board Members who did not vote for the approval of the loan, which is at P1M each, he suggests that the governor should use it to build the classrooms, the press release said.

It added that he believes that the problem of P10M for the six-classroom building will be solved by the provincial government without borrowing from the bank or other financial institutions. The bottomline is there is no need to borrow money for the project, the press release added.*
